Tap water in Makarska Riviera?

Updated: Apr 13, 2020

Tap water in Makarska Riviera is perfectly safe to drink. Many tourists are not aware of this, so they buy huge amounts of bottled water, but this is not necessary. In Croatia, tap water is clean and safe to drink.

There is a public fountain in almost every place in Makarska Riviera. In Makarska, there are several fountains for safe drinking water. Water from the old Venetian fountain next to St Mark's church on Kacic square is perfectly safe to drink, and so is water from big white fountain next to hotel Biokovo on waterfront... If you see locals drink there, you can be sure that water is fine.

Watch out for the fountains from which you can not drink, like the modern fountain on Kacic square. If you are not sure, ask some locals. They will be happy to help you.
Fresh water is pouring from Biokovo mountain, it is okay to drink tap water in Makarska Rivera.
Be nice to our planet, and drink tap water instead of bottled one!
