How to get to the island of Brač?

Nearest island you can see from any harbor of the Makarska Riviera is the one called Brac, well known for its most beautiful beach, Zlatni rat (eng. Golden Horn). You probably have a desire to visit this beautiful fairytale island and we will guide you trough that adventure. Here are some tips on how to reach Brac.

You can reach the island by sea or air. Brac has its own small airport, situated in the middle of the island. More and more flights are introduced each year, and all the necessary information you may find on the airport’s website. Island of Brac has a direct connection with Austria, Belgium, France, Netherlands, Italy, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovenia, and of course Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. The closest international airports to Brac are the ones in Split, Zadar, and Dubrovnik, with many low-cost companies flying there. There are regular bus lines between the airports and city centers, and from there, you can continue to Brac by ferry, catamaran, or private taxi boats.

Best of Brac is a website you want to follow for more detailed info on where to eat and what to see on the beautiful island of Brac.

Although there are different options available for a trip to the island, we will concentrate on those that we think are best for tourists staying in the Makarska Riviera. Those excursion boats that depart from the port of Makarska in the morning are certainly the best way for a one day trip, but you can explore the island of Brac by yourself, too! If you want to travel by car or motorbike, choose a ferry. There are two ferry lines and one catamaran line connecting Brac with the land.

FAST AND LUXURIOUS

Krilo catamaran is the fastest transportation, and here you can find all the necessary information.

As you can see from the table, this line connects Makarska with other islands, but also with the City of Split and Dubrovnik. Prices are acceptable, ranging from 100 to 200 Croatian kuna (13-26€). And hey, pets are allowed (of course with precautions for which you are responsible)!

NICE AND EASY

If you feel more comfortable traveling by car or motorcycle (or maybe bike) there's a Ferry line between Makarska and Sumartin. Jadrolinija's website is regularly updated, and here is current timetable for the Makarska - Brac route you can use as an idea when planning your trip (dates and timetables can change):

If you do not travel with your own vehicle, we recommend that you rent a car at Falco, Makarska's Rent a car agency. You can rent a vehicle on Brac too, but you cannot be 100% sure of the availability of the vehicle on the island.

EXCURSION BOATS FROM MAKARSKA

Depending on whether you are traveling alone, with family or friends, excursion boats guarantee great fun. Also, lunch is included in most of these excursions! Some of the Makarska's most popular excursion boats are Makarski Jadran, Voga, Viganj and Calypso.

Sorry if we neglected someone, we just can’t think of other names at the moment, but as we're aware - with almost every excursion boat you choose - you can't be wrong.

Keep in mind that most of them sail to other islands, like Korcula or Hvar. Time on board is organized, you'll enjoy music, food, drinks, and after disembarking you can use your free time as you wish. You will probably spend it on the beach, but also you can use that time for short tours as well. Listen to the sailor's instructions, don't be late for departure. Although, it would not be so bad to get lost on such a beautiful island as Brac. :)

Internetmater sailed with the excursion boat Makarski Jadran, check out her fun video! For more from her, follow #internetmater on instagram and subscribe on her youtube channel. We would love to see your photos and videos too!
