Drvenik, another pearl of the Makarska Riviera, located south of the town of Makarska, stands out with beautiful beaches and untouched nature. Today we take you through the hidden parts of a beautiful hamlet.

Numerous archaeological findings, foundations of ruined fortresses as well as many other remnants bear witness to the fact that life in the area of Drvenik existed long before the 13th century when the place itself was first mentioned under its present name.

Gradina, a small medieval fortified town, is located on the top of the peak above Drvenik. The story of the brave women of Drvenik who fought to save the fort is interesting and sad. They failed to defend their city, which the Turks occupied in 1687., but the memories of these heroines remain forever.

Some parts of the tower and defensive walls of the fort, which date from the period of 1000 BC, are still preserved.

Drvenik was first mentioned in the 13th century and it got its name after the word ‘drvo’ (tree). The remnants of settlements in the village of Staro selo dating back to the 13th century bear witness to that time period even today.

Drvenik is an ideal place for getting away from everyday life and a hectic lifestyle, where you can enjoy natural beauties, well-kept olive groves and possibly the most beautiful view of the islands of Hvar, Korcula, Brac and the Pelješac peninsula.

It's nice to get lost in Drvenik! These beautiful photos are the work of our photographer Boris Luetic, follow him on Instagram and Facebook.
